Katherine Dinh is head of Marin Country Day School (CA), a K-8 school serving 600 students from San Francisco and Marin counties. Prior to that, she was head of Prospect Sierra School (CA) from 2007-2019. She has 30 years’ experience in various school settings and locations. Katherine started out as an English teacher in a boarding school in Virginia, and later explored the public-school sector as a co-founder of a charter school in Boston. She decided to return to independent schools as English department chair at a K-12 school in Philadelphia. She served as upper school division head at a Friends school in Delaware, and led both the middle and upper divisions of a PK-12 independent school in New Orleans. As a resident of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, Katherine evacuated to Houston and founded and directed a temporary PK-8 school in Houston. She has served on various boards, including as past chair of the NAIS Board. She has also served as co-chair of The Principals’ Center at Harvard University Graduate School of Education, and is president-elect of the Heads' Collegiate Forum board. She also serves on the executive committee of the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) board. Katherine received her B.A. in English from the University of Virginia, and M.Ed. in International Education from Harvard. Katherine was born in Vietnam and grew up in Virginia. Her most important and cherished role is as mother to her son Henry, an independent school graduate who is a freshman in college.
